BRAND HIGHLIGHT
Tua Rita
Located in Suvereto, a small medieval town in the Tuscan province of Livorno, sits Tua Rita, a super Tuscan powerhouse. It all begins in 1984, when Rita and Virgilio Bisti bought a small house in Val di Cornia. The house had a small vineyard, only a few hectares, just enough for the family to make their own homemade wine. Though the area normally produced Sangiovese, Rita and Virgilio decided to take it one step further, and, in 1988, planted their first Cabarnet and Merlot. They released their first vintage in 1992, and have had an amazing track record ever since: multiple highly-rated wines, and the 2000 Redigaffi was awarded a Robert Parker 100-points.
Though they have since expanded beyond their iconic Redigaffi with other ranges such as a Syrah as well as Rosso dei Notri, Tua Rita still maintains dedication to the craft. The hand-picked grapes still arrive in small batches, carefully selected and de- stemmed before being gently crushed. After that, they are transferred to conical wooden vats for fermentation, and then it is matured in oak for at least 18 months.
After Virgilio's passing in 2010, the estate was passed down to his daughter Simena and her husband Stefano, with their own son Giovanni becoming ever more involved, making Tua Rita a homegrown business with family still at the centre of it all.
